This year’s Emmy Awards were special and filled with Black excellence as Black actors made history with the most wins in a single year, not to mention the Black women who made history with their 2020 Emmy wins.
Here are three of my favorite historic Black girl wins from the 2020 Emmys.
Kerry Washington: Scandal star, Kerry Washington, won her first Emmy award for her work at the 2020 Creative Arts Emmys, in the category of Outstanding Variety Special. She was recognized for Live in Front of a Studio Audience: All in the Family and Good Times where she served as an executive producer.
Zendaya: 24-year-old Zendaya made history as the youngest person and only the second Black women to win an Emmy for lead actress in a drama series for her work as Rue in Euphoria.
Regina King: If Beale Street Could Talk star, Regina King, tied screen icon Alfre Woodard’s longtime Emmy record for most Awarded Black actor with her lead actress in a limited series victory for her role as Angela Abar in Watchmen.
Cheers to the all the Black Girl Magic that spread throughout the 2020 Emmys.
